We are looking for a hybrid of an Interaction Designer and Design Research Specialist who will work with our multi-sided platform customers to conduct ethnographic research in the market, define a leading-edge design language and strategy for each of our platform products, and deliver interactive design requirements to enhance the features and functions of our innovative financial technology platform. The position will report directly to the Vice President of Product. We have big important things to do. Come join us.

Who You Are

This hybrid role will push the Vyze products portfolio by creating new tools and processes that advance collaboration, help manage our innovation pipeline, and help us build a more innovative organization. Core to the role is an ability to grasp industry trends, understand our customer’s workplace processes, and employee motivations — all while also thinking creatively, engaging with users, executing designs, and framing the point of view for the User Experience.

We are searching for someone passionate about helping our customers grow and innovate, and who has the skill to uncover meaningful insights that lead to great design and impact. As a Senior Experience Designer you will lead product / service research, concepting, information architecture development (site maps, user flows, sketches, wireframes, navigation models), systemic design, and interaction design to create powerful digital, physical and/or environmental experiences. You will be truly hands-on; you’ll be sought after to discover, understand, and communicate the business requirements of our customers, the emotional desires of their customers, and the context in which these two come together. You will be the voice of expertise through the design and facilitation of workshops with all levels of the organization. Having a strong passion for and understanding of user-centered design processes and interaction design principles is crucial for your success.

What you’ll do

  • Lead research, synthesize findings, and communicate insights to inspire teams, catalyze design, and fuel strategic decisions
  • Design and create prototypes and reference designs for websites, apps, and other digital experiences, all with the ecosystem and journey of end users in mind
  • Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and conduct user requirements analysis, task analysis, conceptual modeling, information architecture design, and interaction design
  • Design and specify information architecture, micro-interactions, and user interfaces using participatory and iterative design techniques, including observational studies, customer interviews, usability testing, competitive audits, market research, and other forms of requirements discovery
  • Produce personas, ecosystem diagrams, customer journey maps, service blueprints, scenarios, flowcharts, wireframes, design annotations, prototypes, and design specifications
  • Effectively synthesize and communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and through execution
  • Manage the design process, drive decisions, track issues, and assist in estimating resource needs and schedules
  • Work closely with strategy and design technology teams to ensure that design requirements are achieved
  • Participate as a contributor to an interdisciplinary team that includes other designers, project management, business and brand strategists, and software developers
  • Plan and facilitate collaborative work sessions with all levels of the client organization
  • Articulate complex visions through simple, elegant designs

  • Know web software and mobile technologies and their impact on the feasibility of a design


What does it take to do the job

  • You are fluent in prototyping, and have experience working with a team to test insights, gather feedback through real-time experimentation, and iterate insight work on the go
  • Passion for UX design, visual design and learning new methods of designing digital experiences
  • 5-8 years in User Experience Design, or a related role that incorporated user research with interaction/graphic design
  • You are well-versed in a range of research methods. Some are based in-person, like in-home interviews and running group conversations. Some are digital such as online ethnography, remote user studies, or using social media to learn about people’s behaviors
  • You are digitally savvy ideally with experience in both quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Experience in concept ideation, design strategy, digital prototyping, proposal writing, user research, concept development, prototyping, working with developers and design stewardship
  • You are fluent in Sketch, Illustrator, and on-screen prototyping tools such as InVision and UXPin. You can demonstrate professional skill in Concept Model Design, UI development for functionality, visual UI development and information architecture
  • You are familiar with front end web markup and scripting, including HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Diverse project experience. You have experience in executing and leading teams through concept ideation, UI concepting/wireframing, design strategy, and working across multiple mediums
  • A generative work style. You are able to prototype rapidly in multiple mediums and levels of interactivity
  • Storytelling skills. You are able to compellingly communicate the story of design solutions
  • Leadership experience. You have experience leading a project team, managing scope, managing deliverables, and managing customer interactions
  • Strong knowledge of interaction design principles and methodology, particularly as applied to Web-based applications
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction or a related design or behavioral science discipline
  • A passion for creating products that resonate emotionally with people
  • Bonus for experience in financial services and working in high-growth early-stage, technology startup companies
